Important New Guidelines for IJELP Authors, Reviewers, and Subscribers

The International Journal of Educational Leadership Preparation (IJELP) moves to a new schedule of publication beginning with the Spring 2017  issue. IJELP will publish one issue annually in the spring with a submission deadline of March 1.

Below is a specific schedule of deadlines, publication dates, and important information for authors:

An example of an IJELP citation is provided below in APA style:

American Psychological Association (APA) Publication Manual:

Before you submit your manuscript to the International Journal of Educational Leadership Preparation (IJELP), make sure you avoid the following common formatting/editorial problems.

  1. All references must follow American Psychological Association (APA) style, with author year format. Do not use footnotes or endnotes (except footnotes for tables). If you have footnotes, delete them and incorporate them into the text.
  2. Documents submitted must be written in Microsoft Word, Times New Roman and size 12 font, double spaced throughout, and not exceed 30 pages (including references).
  3. URLs must be cited as references and should be formatted using WebCite (www.webcitation.org). URLs must also be placed in the reference section.
  4. Figures and Tables should appear in the main manuscript file (rather than as separate files) and placed in their intended position. Tables need to be created with Word Insert Table, rather than created with tabs and spaces. Manuscript submissions with tables created with tabs and spaces will not be considered for review. Also, avoid placing lists (i.e., 1,2,3 or a,b,c) within individual cells of a table.
  5. Do not number your headings. Delete any Running Heads and Footers.
  6. Make certain that all components of the submission (i.e., Cover Page, Summary, and Manuscript) are ALL in one Word file. Do not submit as separate files or documents.
  7. When uploading a manuscript submission into FastTrack, you will be required to create a user account in FastTrack.
  8. Make certain that contact information is provided for the lead author.

Note: NCPEA Publications is committed to reviewing for plagiarism and cyberplagiarism, the copying of paragraphs and ideas from websites and online articles without providing appropriate references. Though it is acceptable to take direct quotes from websites, references (URLs) must be given and the citation must be placed in quotation marks. If the editors and/or reviewers discover plagiarism, NCPEA reserves the right to notify both author and institution of the situation.

SPECIAL NOTE to Authors: Be aware that the IJELP will now publish one issue per year in April. Though we welcome submissions at anytime, we will begin reviewing for each issue at the submission deadline, one month prior to each publication, March 1.

Make certain you have reviewed AUTHOR GUIDELINES.

Make certain you have your document saved on hard drive, and the document includes the Cover Page and Summary found in the Author Guidelines. Simply copy/paste all into one Word document.

Potential authors must register as a FastTrack user to submit their manuscripts to the IJELP. In addition, potential authors MUST register as a Connexions User. Procedures for registering for these two user accounts are provided here:

When you submit your manuscript through NCPEA FastTrack, you will be directed to the FastTrack user account procedure. Submissions must go through this system - no email or hard copies will be accepted or considered.

To register as a Connexions user, follow these steps:

  1. In your browser, type: http://www.cnx.org/
  2. Under Author Login, click on "Get an Account"
  3. Follow the simple steps and set up your account (RECORD your username and password).
  4. After your submission is accepted and formatted for publication, you will be notified by NCPEA to Accept Author/Copyright Roles. You then will log into your previously set up user account and Accept Author Role. This procedure is a protection against anyone submitting or publishing under your name without your knowledge.

Video simulations for both procedures are available at:
