The Minority Doctoral Symposium is designed to meet the needs of students who are finding it difficult to complete their doctorate degree because of conflicting life styles challenges. The Symposium exists to direct efforts to coordinate, initiate and design programs to increase retention, participation and involvement of ethnic, gender and underrepresented populations in successfully completing the doctorate degree in Education.

The Minority Doctoral Symposium: Paving the Road to the Terminal Degree is a presentation made by Dr. Sherwood Thompson from Eastern Kentucky University. It serves as a model for other universities interested in designing their EdD program to attract, recruit and select, and support outstanding students of color.
